Topic > Essay on Poverty - 847

Many people in the world today are in poverty. Various countries are trying to minimize the poverty level by the government by subsidizing most of the things in the country such as education, food and healthcare services. Additionally, factories began producing surplus goods. This excess production will lead to deflation because when there is an excess supply of goods and services, the price of the good or service will decrease causing people to pay less to get more. Furthermore, some countries have started to maximize the use of fertilizers on farms in order to increase agricultural production and reduce poverty. Here, poverty will be examined broadly and different plans proposed by different people to eliminate poverty will be discussed. Poverty is the lack of the essentials of life such as clothing, shelter, food and good health. Poverty can reproduce itself in the family or in the government. Consider a poor couple who give birth to eight children. These children are born into poverty, and because their parents are poor, they would not be able to attend school to at least enable them to find minimum wage jobs, and when these children become adults, they would have inherited this poverty from their parents. which would continue from generation to generation leading to a vicious cycle of poverty in the family. Furthermore, in the government's attempt to eradicate poverty, they only end up reproducing it to a great extent. This occurs when the government thinks of poverty as a monolithic problem and then provides monolithic responses such as neoliberalism. Poor countries feel that to solve the poverty problem they have to ask developed countries like the United States for help and this is not a solution because... middle of paper... that's fine because the poor countries may have money, but the idea presents problems because this plan does not make poor countries rich, it only makes them dependent on rich countries. Furthermore, Roy proposed his own solution to poverty which is microfinancing. She calls the plan limited but nevertheless effective. These plans proposed by Heffernan, Roy and Esterly present the same problem because they both see poverty as a colossal problem that can be solved by getting help within the neoliberal capitalist system. This neoliberal system will only backfire on them, making poor countries even poorer. Finally, poverty is subjective, relative and not objective, that is, it is based on people's personal thoughts and can be constructed. Furthermore, poverty can never be completely eradicated in the world. It's simply something that everyone in the world wishes to achieve one day.
