Blackadder's sense of humor focuses mostly on sarcasm and silly situations. The battlefields of the First World War would hardly seem the ideal place to set a comedy. But of course this is the ideal place for Edmund Blackadder's cynical spirit. Captain Edmund Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson) joined the army before any war was fought in his time, never dreaming of going to war. Now he is stuck in the trenches with the intellectual Baldrick (Tony Robinson) and Lieutenant George (Hugh Laurie), who wants nothing else, jumps on top and is fatally hit by machine gun fire.
