Armenian AmericansIntroductionThe United States is made up of a multitude of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures. We have always been called “the Land of the Free,” which has helped make the United States more attractive to those who have had to seek refuge from their homeland during war and other hostile situations. Unfortunately, those who have had to seek refuge here have not always been welcomed with open arms. We as a nation, and I hate to admit this, are simply racist. In the 1600s, we used African Americans as slaves to basically do our dirty work. We didn't allow them to own anything or even learn to read or write. They had no rights as human beings. We have degraded them and made them nothing. Obviously, things have changed now. Native Americans were torn from their land and murdered for no reason. During World War II, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, we were angry at the Japanese Americans and if they were captured in the United States, they would be held prisoner. Just because they were Japanese, they held themselves responsible for the actions of the people of their homeland. Currently, the war on terrorism has caused outrage for Americans who are from or descended from those in the Middle East, such as Pakistanis, Iraqis, etc. How is it fair for us to say that we are the “Land of the Free” when we hold so much anger towards those who have a different skin color or come from a different ethnic background? My article is not about racism or hatred. I will write about a minority group that so few people know about. I believe that education and awareness can help the United States become more aware of different cultures that are in the middle of the paper and different ethnic background, you want to be aware because you actually just do. you don't want to offend them because you just don't know them. Conclusion In conclusion, it is always a good idea to be aware of different cultures to avoid being disrespectful towards others. We are known as a diverse country and honestly we need to start acting like we are. It is no longer a black or white country. We are made up of different races, genders, ages, sexes, religious preferences, etc. We are different. REFERENCES Armenian traditions.
