Topic > Makeup Artist Career: A Career - 1293

When choosing a career I would rather choose a field I like rather than a job that has a high income. If I was going to do this job for most of my life, I'd rather it be something I enjoyed rather than just be for the money. Since I like to do creative things, I chose artistic makeup. I enjoy the process of transforming someone and using products to change someone's appearance. Most would say that the work consists of girly girls who fail to succeed in anything except the art of looking beautiful, however the art of makeup requires a great deal of skill and patience. Depending on how you work and the jobs you choose in the field, you can actually earn a decent amount of money. One part of the industry that I really enjoy is transforming the customer and increasing their trust. The best part for me is when they feel better about themselves. The art of makeup is not considered a highly valuable or respectable job in the eyes of most people; however this career has a high demand in today's age. There are several fields in which a makeup artist works; behind the scenes for films and photo shoots, formal events, celebrities etc. Many artists who work with famous clients can become famous among celebrities, which pays very well. Artists often work freelance; working independently. Some work in salons or department stores applying makeup or working in retail. This career involves flexible and long hours depending on the work in relation to the chosen field. Whichever field you choose requires high skills and long hours of work, often changing depending on the client. Every client is different and will want a different look, so the artist must possess a wide range of skills to meet the client's needs. Likewise, depending on the job… middle of paper… people because you want to have as much experience with people as possible. The cost for beauty school can be expensive, depending on the program and the area where you live; can range from $15,000 to $20,000 (Makeup Artists Magazine, 2014). To help with costs, several schools offer financial aid. Other schools help students find money through scholarships or low-interest loans. Once you have completed the required amount of hours, it is important to start planning the next step; your work. Many beauty schools help place their students in salons after they graduate and receive their cosmetology license from the state. Several schools work closely with salons in nearby communities, and salons benefit from having a ready source of qualified, motivated stylists to hire. You as a student and employee benefit from having many potential jobs right after graduation.
