Andrew Cravalho Instructor Kristen O'Shea, PhDM May 16, 2014 Final: Research Paper Understanding Gender Differences: Examining Feminism's Perspective Inside the Movement Modern feminist many efforts have been made to find the similarity between men and women women. Liberal feminism has taken the position that few if any significant differences separate the genders (Maltin 6). The goal of this reasoning in feminism is equal rights and therefore the destination, gender equality. (Maltin 5) Passionate women took enterprising actions to advance their cause and secure these rights. However, by focusing on similarity, women limited their own identity. Through the recognition of differences between the sexes, women have the opportunity to not only achieve greater equality, but also create the environment to embrace their unique and exceptional engagement with humanity. In seeking equal rights with their male counterparts, the feminist movement has opened up new opportunities for women in many societies around the world. (Golombiskij 90). Feminists are pioneering women's rights, challenging long-held cultural beliefs, creating greater access to education and political arenas, and initiating change for new ideals. (Golmbisky 90) Many once male-dominated sectors of the workforce now include women based on individual efforts and a plethora of women's groups and organizations. (Golombskiy 93). The benefits gained through feminism are based on a number of ideas that have been embraced philosophically. The motto of the many different types of feminism revolves around the concept of gender equivalence and for feminists this has translated into the pursuit of gender equality. (NORA 260). Some of the modern campaign... middle of paper... features or differences seem appropriate. Leaving out one of the methods would be incomplete. And there's more to discover. Through this work I realized that an inclusive approach is very beneficial. This allows for a continuous observational approach to shed new light on how we understand gender. It also allows you to receive and accept innate facets to develop them instinctively. Receiving both attests to a holistic approach in a symbiotic relationship inclusive of both men and women. Furthermore, feminism in this methodology can continue to eradicate unjust and harmful practices which will produce better treatment of women. Without neglecting their innate differences, feminists can find the delicate balance in a multicultural approach. Otherwise, neglecting these qualities could create the very injustice that the feminist cause for justice is trying to radiate.
