The five-star general and 34th president, Dwight Eisenhower, once said that "this world of ours... must avoid becoming a community of terrible fear and hatred, and be , instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect.” When it was founded in 1624, New York was just a small colony of French Huguenots from the Netherlands, where all were considered equal to each other and change, a wealth gap developed between the wealthy and those living in poverty. This wealth gap led to the emergence of many internal problems in the city. In the diaries of George Templeton Strong, he outlines what the city of New York must do to become a healthy, functioning city. By doing so, Strong is confident that New York will make the changes necessary to have a very bright future ahead in which many more opportunities will be available to its citizens. George Templeton Strong argues that New York will only be as strong as the weakest connection: in this case the weak are the poor living in impoverished slums. In his diaries he asks the rich to help the poor and vulnerable in the slums. By doing so, New York's future would be very bright and full of opportunities for everyone. People in poverty living in the slums of New York were going through immense suffering and had little or no opportunity to succeed and succeed in life. With little to no opportunities, they turned to a life of crime. Many young people living in the community did not have the opportunity to have a successful future. It is not uncommon for these poor men to be arrested and many to be killed for the crimes they have committed. People living in slums became restless, eagerly awaiting change. Strong has called together many public figures……medium of paper……internals of culture and civilization” (39). He is confident that in the near future New York can unite and transform its city into a model city for all other cities in the world. Despite the problems Strong wrote about, New York, through hard work and dedication, has accomplished many great feats since its inception. Today New York is the largest city in the United States, as well as being one of the largest natural ports in the world, with 19 million inhabitants. It is also still an important business location, providing the ground to achieve financial success for many companies and entrepreneurs. Overall, Strong's prediction of a bright future for New York was accurate. Works CitedRinear, David, L. Stage, Page, Scandals, and Vandals: William E.
