It is important to understand that knowledge about crimes, particularly the black community, comes from the media and personal learning. When considering cultivation theory, individuals must possess knowledge outside of the presence of media to fully understand what is going on in society. While news is a credible source, social media and television programs are not factually accurate and the distinction between these forms of media must be made to understand real crime.
