Computers are ubiquitous. As our society grows into an Internet-connected culture, and as the prices of these machines gradually decrease, families purchase more and more of them for their homes and, as a result, children begin to learn to use computers in advance. age. Even if computers are not currently available at home, a child will almost certainly have access to one at school or the library, among other places. Adults today are amazed at the amount of knowledge a child possesses at such an early age: children generally find that computers give them a sense of power and accomplishment. “A computer is nothing more than a box of circuits that perform software-level tasks for a user. Software is also little more than instructions given to hardware to perform specific tasks. Therefore, a computer, in itself, is neither positive nor negative. Its intrinsic goodness or badness is determined by the user.” That said, there are many positive and equally negative associations that come with owning a computer. From a positive perspective, computers provide us with a wealth of resources and information and as a species have made us much more intelligent. Individually, it has made us more informed because we can easily find the information we need, even though, if the Internet were taken away, we would become less intelligent. As the human race becomes more interconnected, it means we have more capabilities, and the Internet has wired us all into one “super brain” that is smarter than any individual. Another example of information technology is “text messaging.” Humans can now communicate over long distances instantly and easily, but there is a common misconception that "texters" are "dumb... middle of paper... computers are a great invention if used discreetly. Usage the computer almost every day to help me with homework, chat with friends or even to have fun watching a movie or playing games. I find computers to be a stress reliever, a "door to another world" where one can be whoever they want if they find out having had a bad day at school or at work Even though I sustain this positive attitude towards computers every day, I find, even in myself, that I have become slightly dependent, preventing me from getting as much sleep as I need or allowing me to do homework without distractions. Overall, however, I have found that computers have made me more knowledgeable, even if it wasn't specifically about school, and that they have prepared me for a future where computer use is inevitable.
