The problem of dropout rate in the United States not only affects their future, but also the economy, taxpayers, and the well-being of the country. According to the National Dropout Prevention Center, “Each year the dropout category will cost the country more than $200 billion over their lifetime in lost earnings and unrealized tax revenue.” With a total number of 8,300 high school students dropping out per day and 3,030,000 per year. (Statistical Brain). “Dropping out is defined as dropping out of school without a high school diploma or equivalent credential such as a General Educational Development (GED).” In fact, people who have not earned a high school diploma face many more challenges later in life than those who have graduated and have a diploma. It is very disappointing and dangerous to see how the dropout rate in today's generation accelerates students making the decision to drop out every day. There are many reasons why teenagers decide to drop out of high school, such as pregnancy, lack of interest, boredom, academic difficulties and lack of parental support. Most importantly, dropping out is preventable, and there are even solutions and help for those who have made the bad decision to drop out of high school without earning a diploma. The three solutions I propose to prevent students from dropping out of high school are more parental support, more community opportunities, and last but not least, improving the school system. There is no doubt that education is the key to success and getting a high school education. The degree opens doors to other rewarding long-term career opportunities. A high school diploma is necessary because it gives you the opportunity to earn a good salary. Apparently, there are benefits for teenagers who leave…half of the paper…for graduating from high school. This solution is the best and most important contribution to stop the dropout crisis because parental support plays an important role in the student's education. Conclusion: Dropping out of high school has a significant long-term impact on an individual's economic life. Completion of high school has become a key prerequisite for many jobs, as well as colleges. In today's economy it is really hard to find a good, high paying job and even harder when you don't have a high school diploma. This is a crisis that federal governments, communities, school districts, parents and everyone should pay more attention to and find solutions to reduce high school dropout rates in the United States. I believe this problem can be solved by supporting state and local efforts to address educational and economic inequities.
