Box Jelly fish is a special type of jellyfish. It is also known as Cubozoa. The scientific for this particular organism is Chironex fleckeri. These jellyfish look really beautiful and elegant but they are very deadly. They are extremely dangerous organisms. They have the ability to instantly stun or kill their prey. Their tentacles have some toxins that manipulate the organism's nervous system and shut it down, preventing it from breathing properly and as a result the organism suffocates and dies. When the jellyfish inserts the toxin into the organism from its tentacles, it can also paralyze the organism making it impossible for it to find a way to escape. The toxin released into the body does not allow the muscles to contract or relax, and without the muscles relaxing and contracting the trapped body cannot move (paralyzed). These box jellyfish are also marine wasps and marine stingers. They are found primarily in the coastal waters of northern Australia and throughout the Indo Pacific. They are pale blue and transparent. They take their name from the cubic shape of their bell. These jellyfish can have up to fifteen tentacles growing from each corner of the bell and each tentacle can reach around 3 meters in length. Each tentacle has about five thousand stinging cells. These stinging cells are activated not by touch but by the presence of a chemical substance on the outer layer of the prey. Jellyfish venom is considered one of the deadliest in the world. The venom contains various toxins that attack the nervous system, skin cells and heart. The venom is so powerful and strong that the organism can even...... middle of paper...... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/diana-nyad/box-jellyfish-deadly-veno_b_3546799. html http://www.australianfauna.com/boxjellyfish.php http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/cnidaria/cubozoamm.html http://www.australianfauna.com/boxjellyfish.php http://animaldiversity. ummz .umich.edu/accounts/Chironex_fleckeri http://local.brookings.k12.sd.us/krscience/zoology/webpage%20projects/sp11webprojects/boxjellyfish/boxjellyfish.htm http://www.mnn.com/earth- matters /animals/photos/10-creatures-that-deliver-the-most-painful-stings-and-bites/box http://science.howstuffworks.com/zoology/jellyfish-venom1.htm http://www. ask .com/question/how-do-jellyfish-reproduce http://local.brookings.k12.sd.us/krscience/zoology/webpage%20projects/sp11webprojects/boxjellyfish/boxjellyfish.htm http://www.livescience. com /6353-deadly-box-jellyfish.html http://www.earthhistory.org.uk/corals-and-jellies/box-jellyfish
