Topic > The Importance of the Aging Process - 1130

Blackman taught me about healthy aging, my experience with the team helped me sharpen my understanding of how to function in a group. When interacting with new people, a period of “feeling” is necessary. People may not integrate immediately, but they can adapt to each other. The most important thing at the beginning is not to make a bad impression that could alter perceptions. During our first visit, it seemed as if all four of us were seeking balance in our interactions with Mr. Blackman. This not only gave Mr. Blackman more opportunity to get a feel for each individual, but also allowed us to get to know each other better. This helped set the tone for future visits. Although I was the leader of the second visit, and the two nursing students led the third visit, the responsibilities and actions performed were balanced among the team members. There was a desire to ensure that everyone was engaged and involved in the visit. I believe that this willingness to get to know each other first and then use that information to help maintain balance in the group not only allowed us to function better as a group, but also helped us maintain a good attitude in the group.
