Life in Oceania is quite confusing and difficult to follow. When you start the book 1984 it is difficult to understand the life that people live in Oceania. As you travel through the book, you begin to understand people's lives and how trapped they are. As you read the book you also begin to understand the three different parties in Oceania and how they work. The Inner Party is the high class party with all the luxuries. They are barely monitored by telescreens and practically control Oceania. The Outer Party is larger than the Inner Party, but is always watched by television screens and is practically working class, but somehow poor and receives only what it needs to survive. If some members of the Outer Party are considered too intelligent or not loyal to Big Brother, they become a non-person. The Proles are the ones who have the largest number of people and are not watched at all by television screens and are considered free people with a very low amount of money. This information does not necessarily tell us what the ideological and thematic difference is between the parties and what is the main thing that makes them different. The ideological and thematic difference between the parties is that they all have different beliefs about Big Brother, who controls them and who is the highest power in Oceania. When analyzing the difference and the parties first, we must first look at the Inner Party. and what they do. The Inner Party is Big Brother and the Inner Party controls Oceania. This seems a little confusing, but after analyzing the information it is quite obvious that the Inner Party runs the government and that there is no real person called “Big Brother”. On page 259 of the 1984 book there is a conversation... in the center of the paper... the beliefs in Big Brother, who controls them and who is the highest power in Oceania. The Inner Party is Big Brother, while the proles actually don't have to worry much about Big Brother, but just have to show less patriotism. The Outer Party must love, follow and do everything that Big Brother tells them to do. Big Brother is not a real person like Winston, Julia or O'Brien, but this idea of Big Brother or the government based on this idea of Big Brother works for the government. Obviously this government is wrong and not right, but it works and allows the party to maintain control for a long time. Works Cited Glover, Beaird. "Nineteen eighty-four."
