Topic > Who are Jehovah's Witnesses - 1851

I. IntroductionJust a few days ago, I saw in the news that a female Jehovah's Witness was bitten by a dog while knocking on the door. Even though there was a “Beware of Dog” sign, the woman decided to go in anyway. Is their passion for evangelism so strong that they are willing to sacrifice their own safety and suffer verbal abuse from the people they knock on? Through this short presentation, we will try to identify the true nature of Jehovah's Witnesses. And, since time is limited, we won't go too deep into the details but will try to learn them better so that we can be ready to tackle them next time. Jehovah's Witnesses began as a Bible study movement in 1870 by Charles Taze Russell. In 1879, Russell founded a magazine called Zion Watchtower and the organization became Zion's Watchtower Track Society in 1884, and in 1908 Russell moved its headquarters to Brooklyn, New York, where the organization has been based ever since. After Russell's death in 1916, the organization was led by a man named Franklin Rutherford. Rutherford led the organization with great success, and in 1931 the name “Jehovah's Witnesses” was adopted. Rutherford wrote over one hundred books and radically shaped the group's theology. Jehovah's Witnesses publish the magazines “Watchtower” and “Awake” which today circulate approximately twenty-seven million and thirty-two million copies respectively. And since Jehovah's Witnesses have no professional clergy, the Watchtower magazine also functions as a means of distributing its doctrine and practice to believers around the world. These magazines claim that their content is based on the Bible, but when we study their Bible and their translated tracts, there have not been many misleading interpretations, especially in Christology which makes... in the center of the paper... someone who he has more authority than creation. This is divine God. When Jehovah's Witnesses reject the divinity of Jesus Christ by saying that he is created as something less than God, the entire salvation authority of Jesus Christ is nullified. The same principle applies to the incarnation of Jesus formulated by Athanasius. If Jesus is not 100% human, then Jesus has no right to atone for the sins of humans as this would be against God's nature for justice. When Jehovah's Witnesses claim that Jesus was God's first creation, having inferior qualities to God himself or describing him as an angel, the logic from above leads to the conclusion that there is no salvation in Jehovah's Witness theology. Therefore the claim made by Arius at the Council of Nicea was rejected and the claim made by Jehovah's Witnesses must also be rejected and criticized. Finally more interesting parts.
