“How did you do it?” was probably something people said to Arthur Miller when his career as a playwright became a success. Arthur Miller was born in a time when America was thriving, lived through a war and a depression, and ended up becoming a successful playwright. Arthur Miller's birth took place on October 17, 1915. He was born to Jewish immigrants, Augusta and Isidore Miller, who immigrated from Poland.* He grew up on the streets of Manhattan, New York, with his brothers. Arthur's father, Isidore, owned a shop that produced clothing and generated some wealth among the Millers. They were wealthy enough to afford an apartment to check out Central Park and get a ride in a chauffeur-driven car.* Life for the Millers was golden until 1929, when the stock market crashed and everything went out of business. activity.
