• Pinch the skin: Pinch the skin and fat between the thumb and forefinger.• Push the needle into the skin: With the other hand, hold the syringe with a 90 degree angle (45 degree angle for children or thin people). Make sure the needle is completely inserted into the skin. If the needle is not inserted far enough, insulin may not be injected into the fat layer. Let go of the pinched tissue before injecting the insulin.• Inject the insulin: Press the plunger with your thumb using slow, steady pressure until the insulin is gone.• Remove the needle: Pull the needle out insert it at the same angle. Press the injection site for a few seconds to prevent insulin from leaking. • Throw away the used insulin syringe: Insulin syringes should only be used once. Throw away used needles and syringes safely in a hard container where the needles cannot penetrate. Close the container hermetically with a screw cap.
