Bohan Fan109053622Final assignment topic3Human beings construct and use law to regulate and limit their behaviors in order to keep society stable and harmonious. However, sometimes criminals can still commit crimes and inappropriate behavior and successfully get away with it due to a lack of supervision and punishment. Nowadays, the power of social control has become stronger and stronger in our society. Criminals are only a small portion of people in society, most people are well-mannered individuals who do not want other people to commit crimes. Instead of understanding why some people do bad things, people who behave well know exactly why they don't do them. Then they use all kinds of methods to show others what keeps them away from breaking the law such as their dignity, beliefs, values and relationships. This group of people uses their behaviors and reactions to certain behaviors to help reduce crime. In my opinion, sometimes social media can also cause problems for society, because people always want others to have the same standards and opinions about a certain behavior or statement, but people are always different from each other, therefore sometimes the abuse of the power of social media controls and profound misunderstandings can occur. From my perspective, there are three most used ways to exercise social control: establishing role models and ethical standards, using judgment and reaction to make people feel a certain way (including guilt and shame), using reward and punishment to control others' behavior and lead people to become well-mannered people and stay away from crime. First of all, sometimes people don't know exactly what kind of behavior is inappropriate or even illegal. It is reasonable, not all laws are common sense and well learned by anyone... middle of paper... what others think about his move, may force him to consider it more complete and thorough. Therefore he may change his behavior after reconsideration. From my point of view, these types of behavior and reaction include words, facial expressions are ways to connect with others, these reactions can help people better express their opinion and attitude, help others consider consequences sooner to do things. These types of reactions are also somewhat effective against crime, if a person sees a robbery happening, shouts out loud and runs towards the robber he can turn the situation around and stop the crime. But if the person walks away silently, the thief is less likely to stop the robbery. Furthermore, the reaction towards a crime or violation that has been suppressed can also contribute to helping people change their behavior or stay away from the violation.
