In today's society many school officials are sued in court. It is very important that educators and administrators understand the legal duties and responsibilities they face. School must be a safe place for parents to send their children and it is the duty of teachers, administrators and staff to ensure this happens. Many liability issues involve school safety, unintentional torts, liability and negligence, supervisory duties, FERPA, and student data privacy. There are many preventative measures in our school district to reduce the need for lawsuits. According to the Arizona Professional Administrators Standard 2, the administrator facilitates the success of all students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the social, cultural, and legal aspects of the community (APAS, 2010). In our school district, safety is a top priority concern, so rigorous precautions are required along with routines to monitor negative violence or unsafe environments. While students are in the classrooms, teachers ensure that no one enters without permission from the front office and that no one can enter the school grounds without first registering in the main office. Everyone knows and understands the safety rules and their responsibilities towards students. At the beginning of each school term, teachers, parents and students receive information about safety on campus. Students must not bring any threatening items to school and if they do, the items will be taken away from them and parents will be notified. Unintentional tort is simple negligence on the part of teacher administrators when they fail to protect students from injury or lack of care (GCU, 2008). Our school is... half way......fe and an injury free school environment for our children so that we, as parents, can be sure that when we send our children to school, we know that they will be looked after with maximum protection.
