The treatment of African AmericansThe treatment of African Americans, in my opinion, has almost always been worse than that reserved, for example, to Europeans. In the 17th century, whites traveled to Africa and brought Africans back as slaves to their country. In their country, they continued to treat them like slaves, without respect, to do the hard work, such as picking cotton, picking tobacco, building railways, etc. You were basically judged on the color of your skin, not your character. Even though slavery was established long ago, segregation and discrimination are not yet completely over. A major event in the 19th century was Abraham Lincoln's speech declaring the slaves free. However, he did not want them to have the same social and political rights. The situation has improved for people of color in some parts of the world, but it has not been the same as for whites. This case repeats itself after Luther Martin King gave his famous “I have a dream” speech. The situation improved for black people, but there was still hatred against black people, including Sweden. This hatred was above all one of the reasons why the racist group Ku Klux Klan was founded and spread. In a world where there is so much love and respect, there is also an opposite side, just like ying and yang. There is good and then there is the opposite, evil. Why did so many people join and still remain in such a bad group as the Ku Klux Klan? There are many different reasons; one of them is people who grow up in a society that is against equality and still sees the difference between the same species, Homo sapiens, because of their appearance. This really infuriates me, not only because it's a selfish,...... middle of paper... opinion on how most Swedish-speaking people perceive immigrants. Express your opinions, explain why you think a certain way, provide arguments and examples to support your opinions. What might others think? Let's compare the situation in the 1960s with the situation in Sweden today. Is there segregation in Sweden? In Eskilstuna? Is there discrimination in Sweden? In Eskilstuna? If so, what similarities and differences can you see? For what reasons are people segregated and/or discriminated against (sex, ethnicity, race, age, religion, etc.)? Describe, explain and give examples.
