The Acts of Union were signed in 1707, uniting Scotland and England into one, forming one of the most admired countries in the world, Great Britain. England, until now, has been the most powerful sovereign state in Great Britain and holds almost all control over Scotland and its neighboring countries, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scotland, which had previously been a country in its own right, would now like to regain control and go about its own business again. Back in 2013 it was established that on 18 September 2014 Scotland will hold a referendum for the Scottish people to vote 'Yes' or 'No' whether they believe Scotland should become an independent country. Scotland wanting to gain independence has been a constant and remaining issue for some time. Scotland had its first chance to vote for independence in 1979, but the majority of Scotland voted no. Then, later in 1997, there was a vote for Scotland to have its own parliament with devolved powers, which the Scottish people voted yes to, and which was then granted in 1999. This September's vote, however, it will be a crucial point in British politics. history as Scotland once again has the possibility of permanently breaking away from the rest of Great Britain. Scottish independence is a hotly debated topic with both sides, pro-union and pro-independence, campaigning strongly. Both campaigns, “Better Together” and “Yes Scotland”, are unfortunately both biased as they bombard the British people with facts, statistics and biased predictions in the hope of gaining more support. The public should therefore consider the claims of both sides, the opinions of experts and keep an open mind to make the right decision on this very important question, whether it is in Scotland's best interests to become independent or to remain part of the... half of paper. ......Referendum: Experts examine claims."
