The Central Intelligence Agency is a federal government agency that gathers information on foreign military, economic, and political activities. It also conducts covert political operations against governments to promote national security. The Central Intelligence Agency became incredibly active during the Cold War, which was primarily an intelligence war. During the years 1961 and 1963, the Central Intelligence Agency took many actions in an attempt to fight communism and resolve the Cold War under Kennedy's presidency. The CIA has been in operation since the George Washington years. Intelligence organizations have been collecting information from abroad for most of our countries' history. Although the government has been gathering intelligence information for the past several hundred years, the CIA was only recently established as an official agency, and at the same time, intelligence gathering was finally accepted in peacetime. After World War II, the United States sought to establish a distinct intelligence-gathering organization. After Pearl Harbor, plans for the official CIA were approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Before the CIA, the Office of Strategic Services was responsible for espionage, sabotage, and psychological warfare operations during wartime. At that time peacetime intelligence was considered unsavory. After the war, President Truman sought to strengthen and promote peaceful intelligence gathering and to do so sponsored the National Security Act of 1947. The CIA is designed for intelligence gathering and analysis purposes. The Cold War was a period of extreme tension between the United States and the Soviet Union that dominated world politics and captured public attention for nearly five decades. of paper... Furthermore, the Kennedy administration never authorized Castro's assassination plans because each of them would imply direct involvement of the United States which it tried to stay away from. Although direct attacks ceased after the unsuccessful operations, the United States and Cuba continued to have tensions with each other. The Central Intelligence Agency was involved in many activities and major operations during the Kennedy years. The CIA made many attempts to remove Castro from power. The agency was also responsible for gathering all of the United States' intelligence during the Cold War and conducting the Bay of Pigs invasion. They also provided the country with valuable intelligence and tactics during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Between 1961 and 1963, the CIA carried out numerous operations to fight communism and put the United States ahead in the Cold War.
