In American society, the classic American dream is characterized by homeownership. People memorize the most memorable moments of their lives, such as buying their first car or successfully investing in the stock market or the first time. All these memorable events arise from the universal ideal of ownership. The idea of buying anything for gain, social class, material objects or self-esteem, is still a hotly debated topic today. The determination to unmask the relationship between property and sense of self has plagued many philosophers for centuries. Property marks some of the greatest goals of human society, yet it can also bring ruin to any individual.
