“Transformational leadership is a newer leadership approach that creates valuable, positive changes in its followers. Transformational leadership improves motivation, morale and performance, as well as challenging and inspiring followers to achieve extraordinary results and in the process develop their own leadership capacity. Transformational leaders also focus on “transforming” others to help each other, care for each other, be encouraging and harmonious, and care about the organization as a whole.” (Bass, 2006)This training is being conducted in response to globalization and the effect it is having on trade unions. With a global economy upon us and politely advanced managers and business leaders controlling the destiny of companies; The time has come for the union's leadership and members to move into the future by “transforming” themselves, so they can control their own destiny. This new transformation must develop highly motivated innovative leaders with critical thinking skills. However, for this transformation to work, union leadership must abandon “laissez-faire status quo” practices. These union leaders must then take the initiative to develop and work to become educationally innovative leaders, thus leveling the playing field with that of the opposing corporate world. The way to do this is through a transformational leadership approach. To begin this transformation process, “Will union members interested in leadership learn all the leadership qualities that transformational leaders possess by taking a “Transformational Leadership” course, or do they already know them?” Now, to find the answer to this question, the union leadershi...... middle of paper ......and used continuously in the future. This training has no end. Once leaders step into their roles with transformational training in hand, case studies will likely need to be implemented in the near future to determine whether the training curriculum needs to be adapted.
