As you enter your favorite restaurant, you notice several people wearing guns on their hips. You might think this is illegal, but every day more and more states pass concealed carry laws. Concealed carry is becoming more common in public places due to the passing of laws in more states. What is concealed carry? Concealed carry is carrying a gun on your person with a legal permit that allows you to do so. The weapon must be visible from three points of view. To obtain a concealed carry permit, an individual must attend one or more courses taught by a certified teacher. Handguns, or pistols, are most commonly used for concealed carry because they are small enough to conceal and cannot use the most powerful cartridges (Ellerman). Concealed carry is used for the sole purpose of self-defense. The CHL (concealed weapons license) amount is piling up. Many states are now passing bills that will allow students, teachers and employees to be armed on campuses in hopes of eliminating mass shootings. Many companies now also allow customers, and even employees, to carry out transportation. As states pass campus concealed carry laws, more and more citizens are getting licensed. With the hope of eliminating school shootings, in some states students and employees are now allowed to carry. As of now, twelve states have introduced the bill that will allow anyone with a concealed carry permit to operate on college campuses and in many privately owned businesses. Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, and Wisconsin have successfully passed campus concealed carry laws. Ohio passed its concealed carry law in 2004 (Baus).
