In his work “A Critique of the Argument from Design” Hume asks himself and his main characters whether we can logically discover the nature of God. The three main characters: Demea, Philo and Cleanthes represent different sides of the issue. Demea believes that we cannot understand the nature of God, because it is naturally beyond people's perception. Philo considers the nature of God from a philosophically skeptical point of view. He agrees with Demea that we cannot understand the nature of God and proves his idea. Cleanthes disagrees with two opponents and believes that the nature of God is possible to understand with the help of reasoning. In his work "The Argument from Design" Swinburne tells the parable of the kidnapper with the card shuffling machine. The kidnapper tells the victim that he would die if any of the ten card shuffling machines dropped any card except the Ace of Hearts.
