People expect so much from teenagers, especially students who play sports and hold down a job throughout the school year. They are expected to attend classes and their extracurricular activities; they must arrive at work on time, finish their homework, do their studies and, above all, get enough sleep at night. This is the kind of intense schedule that students keep in their week and it is overwhelming for them. It causes stress and burnout and people are still expected to do well and keep up with everything. Is this how we want students to feel all the time? Sure, we want them to achieve goals and do their best, but one way to relieve stress is less homework. When they come home from work or sports late at night, they still have paperwork to fill out, but nowadays it often takes hours to finish it. This is where life becomes almost unbearable for our students. American students have too much homework and have gotten to a point where this has created many problems for people including teachers, family members, and students. Homework is work that students are expected to do individually at home to learn content and obtain academics. habits. However, for it to be meaningful to students, it must have a purpose and promote mastery (“Does homework work?”). If homework gets to a point where the assignment has no clear purpose, this upsets both students and their parents. For this reason it is important that teachers make the meaning of tasks clear. It helps motivate students and makes them more willing to learn (DeNisco). When homework becomes a chore, students begin to hate doing it and begin to stress out.
