Prostitution, the act of having sexual intercourse for money, has been part of human society since biblical times. It has become a common part of our society because women who choose to take part in prostitution are often on the verge of bankruptcy or already are and need a way to provide for themselves and/or their families. They have little or no laws in place to protect them. This leads to the question of whether prostitution should be legalized or whether it should be kept as a common, but illegal, occurrence. There are many reasons why it is better to legalize prostitution. Prostitution has not only been recognized, but referenced for hundreds of years. It has been mentioned in the Bible not just once, but many times. In Leviticus 19:29 the verse states, “Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land turn to prostitution and turn to wickedness.” This served as a message to parents to keep their daughters virgin until they got married. This was just one of the first instances where it was mentioned, it was also mentioned by Jesus in the parable of the two sons: “Truly I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes enter the kingdom of God before you. Because John came to you to show you the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even after seeing this you repented and believed him.” (Mt 21,31-32). In today's society, there are very few people who have not heard of prostitution or do not know its meaning. Unfortunately, it has become a common practice in our society and around the world. This led many people to form an opinion about prostitution as a whole and not just its legalization.
