Air temperature trends in the African continent. Air temperature (i.e. climate change) is one of the controversial topics for many researchers. Mainly around issues related to where it is exposed and what gives rise to it (King'uyu et al., 2000). A lot of information is shown by different researchers and results, such as New et al. (2006) state that there is less information on daily air temperature patterns. According to King'uyu et al. (2000), research on air temperature reports indicated that global average air and surface temperatures have increased over the past 100 years, which shows that there has been a notable increase in air temperature patterns . The following discussion highlights some of the important points raised by different researchers about the different air temperature patterns on the African continent, the causes and consequences of the changes that occur. The discussion is structured as follows: the first paragraph provides a definition of air temperature, the second paragraph provides a clear description of the different air temperature trends, the third paragraph provides the causes of the extreme and unexpected air temperature trends In the air, the fourth paragraph raises the observed consequences, while the last paragraph summarizes all the conclusions the researchers reached. Burroughs (2003) defines air temperature as “the temperature indicated by a thermometer exposed to air in a place sheltered from direct solar radiation”. Collins (2011) stated that there has been a notable increase in air temperature patterns across Africa. A consecutive increase in dry days was found over southern Africa in the last decades of the twentieth century (New et al. 2006), where temperatures were unreliable... middle of paper......the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro they will disappear due to rapid heating of the air. Finally, these high air temperature patterns would lead to a loss of habitat for many animal species and also to a lot of rainfall on the African continent which may not benefit some countries as there may be flooding. In conclusion, after reviewing all this research, the findings indicate that there has been a pattern of increasing air temperatures since the beginning of the twentieth century, however, some areas have experienced warmer than normal temperatures, as noted from the Remote Sensing System and the University of Alabama at Huntsville (Collins, 2011). This increase in air temperature is mainly due to human impacts on the climate. These patterns of air temperature rise will eventually lead to unbearable consequences in the future: 972
