When I was little, our parents only allowed us a small amount of virtual entertainment, including television. Even before we could be in the same room as the television, we had to meet some requirements; our homework had to be completed, our rooms had to look decent, and we had to complete our household chores completely. Even after completing all of these things, we found little interest in watching television—instead, we usually ended up in our backyard playing soccer, drawing on the sidewalk with chalk, or hanging out with friends. We lived in sunny California where the sun stayed up seemingly forever and we didn't want to miss a moment in the beautiful sunshine. That time as a child, running free, being outside without a care in the world, was the best time of my life. Most likely they are playing on the X-box or watching television. Now obviously I'm grown up and have very little time to be free and enjoy lots of time in the sun. Now there are more responsibilities, a bigger workload, which makes me wish I could go back to when kids were carefree and went out of their own accord. A time when imagination was the key to happiness. When I have time to relax, I find myself doing what most people do; watching television. It seems very normal to have the television on in every home. At least half of every ho...... middle of paper....... Web. April 11, 2014. "The Harmful Effects of Watching Television."
