Topic > Importance of Groups in Decision Making - 2122

Group is defined as a number of individuals gathered together or having a unifying relationship based on the Merriam-Webster dictionary. Groups are political and decision-making mechanisms that have been given a special status in society since the time of the early Greek civilization. This special status remains intact in many societies and cultures today. The legislative process to dictate the law, the judicial process, the curriculum decision by the school board, the marketing strategy for the company, and the appointment of top executives to fill key positions such as CEO are examples of the decision making process. Although individuals make many decisions in the public and private sectors, outcomes that need to have important implications for society are generally assigned to the group. The group is seen more as an individual decision-making entity for at least two reasons. First, the group represents a broader set of communities and therefore tends to be enriched with diversity of perspectives, etc. Second, decision making by a group tends to be seen as fair providing better judgments and justifications after taking into account the input of a larger group. part of the society in which the decision was made (Darley & Tyler, this volume; Folger, 1977; Thibaut & Walker, 1975; Tyler & Smith, 1998). However, the group was also seen as “better” than individuals in key decision-making and high-profile issues. The idea that "two heads are better than one" is widespread and usually accurate, based on empirical data (Hastie, 1986; Hill, 1982; Kerr, MacCoun, & Kramer, 1996a; Laughlin & Ellis, 1986).2.0 GROUP DECISION MAKING TECHNIQUE2.1 Brainstorming"Brainstorming" which involves group members to generate and propose ideas or in...... in the middle of the document ......creation is the process that requires information, ideas and certain conditions to be successful. It is essential that all parties participate in the decision making process as the impact on the decision will be accountable to management and employees. There are certain processes that need to be addressed before any decision-making technique can be implemented. It will depend on the environmental factor, associated risks, defining the problems, generating the solution to remedy the implications, and selecting the best decision option that accounts for and justifies all associated team members throughout the process. Although there are many barriers or obstacles along the way to making a decision, management and employees should be able to find any method to increase production while minimizing all the resources that management has in their possession to execute a decision..
