Keith DeardenDr. GuhdePrincipals of Management3/6/14The Essential DruckerAccording to Peter F. Drucker the fundamental task of management is "to make people capable of joint performance through common goals, common values, the right structure, and the training and development they need to perform and respond to change”. There are many different definitions for the term management, but what better one coming from “the man who invented management Drucker is seen as the father of management so I believe that is his definition of management”. Drucker's views were the first of its kind in terms of management. As the world changes day by day, Peter Drucker's definition and vision of management has been with us since he first introduced it to us states in his first chapter, “Management as a Social Function and a Liberal Art,” Drucker believes that management itself is a liberal art and that is why Drucker would approve of the core curriculum used here at Oglethorpe. In the second chapter Drucker begins by stating that the Management is “the body of an institution”. He then explains to the reader that there are three main tasks that ensure a company or institution functions and succeeds. The first task discussed by Druckers is: “Establish the specific purpose and mission of the institution, be it a commercial enterprise, a hospital, or a university.” When we discussed this topic in class we said that a company must establish its mission. So both what we learned in class and what Drucker talks about in his book say that the first task of a company is to establish a mission statement. The one point Drucker makes in this first assignment is that every...... half of the paper......er of the Oglethorpe University Core Curriculum. Management is viewed by different people in different ways, but it is the visions implemented by Peter Drucker that form the foundation of management for the past, present and future. Drucker's three tasks, taken from his book The Essential Drucker, are what companies use for successful management teams in their companies. Another thing to consider when talking about Ducker's view on management is the connection of management to the liberal arts. Management is a liberal art considered very similar to the Core Curriculum offered here at Oglethorpe University. Therefore Drucker would support the liberal education offered here at Oglethorpe University. Management can never truly be defined, but it is the ideals and opinions of Peter F. Drucker that give companies a form of management to shape their companies based on.
