Social Movement RhetoricThe Environmental MovementThe environment and nature have played a huge role in the history of the United States. Nature has always been an essential key to the success of the United States. Since the country was first settled, livestock and agriculture have been a key part of survival and the economy. But the one thing that the first settlers never imagined is that one day all these resources, so abundant at the time, could run out. This is where the environmental movement comes in. In this article I will discuss the long history of the environmental movement from its early days of conservation and ecology to the present day of radical protests and political change. I will also explain some of the main organizations involved in the environmental movement and discuss what they are doing in terms of conservation and general strategies for making change. There is a long history of environmentalism and conservationism in the United States that dates back to the country's beginnings. The first interest in nature and ecology dates back to about 200-300 years ago, when the first settlers arrived in the United States. The country had a large amount of land and natural resources. The first settlements were based on agriculture and livestock, and wood and other resources were used to build houses, so the first settlers had a close relationship with nature. When people began moving west, [DATE] did not think that natural resources would ever run out. Because of the size and vastness of the West, migrants thought the resources were infinite. However, Native Americans had an intimate relationship with nature. They worshiped plants, animals and water sources…half of the paper…generation. The organizations currently involved in the movement are doing much to change policies and regulations within the federal government. The movement continues to develop into an ever stronger cause as time goes by. Works Cited “About the Sierra Club.” Sierra Club. Np, nd Web. April 12, 2014."Information." WorldWildlife.org.
