Pole Vault Training Program OBJECTIVE The purpose of this program is to increase a pole vault athlete's strengths by focusing on physical, mental and technical competence. This 12-week program is designed to break down proper training into three four-week intervals to most effectively and adequately physically prepare a high school pole vault athlete for the competition level. The program is designed to last 60 to 90 minutes per session, not including warm-up/cool-down, and the length of pole vault drills varies depending on the instructor. The program focuses more on preparing your fitness level of strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, speed, body awareness and control. PARTICIPANTS This program is primarily focused on high school pole vault athletes. Since they are participating in a school sports function, appropriate medical clearance, informed consent and appropriate legality measures should be in place. Since every athlete is different, it is important to identify each athlete's strengths and weaknesses to appropriately fit them into the program. While this program is designed to target and strengthen all aspects of the event, minor adjustments may need to be made by the coach/trainer to make the program work most effectively and safely. Please keep in mind that this program is a design scheme and can/should be modified to most effectively improve each athlete. Some athletes will be able to handle one program more rigorous than the next, and exercises, speed and acceleration of development will need to be replaced with some athletes to achieve the desired result. EQUIPMENT This program will require a track for sprinting exercises and to focus on running mechanics. Pole vault equipment will be required for drills and practice. Equipme......middle of paper......occurs and technique begins to decline as fatigue increases. Pole vaulting is a matter of technique and training and should not be attempted where there is risk.
