The principles of respect for client autonomy and loyalty are both ethical concerns and important elements in counselor/client relationships (Welfel, 2013). In the world of psychotherapy, confidentiality ensures honesty and respect between therapist and client. Clarifying what we talk about in the session remains private, but counselors may be required by law to disclose confidential information.
