PolygamyPolygamy is the marriage of a man or a woman with multiple spouses at the same time in which the other participating spouses know each other. Polygamy should not be confused with bigamy, which is the marriage of a married man or woman to multiple spouses who do not know each other. Many things are said about polygamy today. There are also many different points of view. Governments, as well as citizens and the Catholic Church, have different opinions on polygamy. Most people consider polygamy to be wrong because it degrades women and human beings in general. Although in some people's eyes polygamy is degrading to women, others say it is part of their religious beliefs and so some people look past the fact that it is wrong and degrading to women. According to different governments around the world, it seems that half of the world allows polygamy and half of the world is completely against it. The Catholic Church considers polygamy to be morally wrong because God gave us the sacrament of marriage as an unbreakable bond between a man and a woman. Yes, Evangelism Vitae may not directly address polygamy itself, but it highlights how the marriage bond should be a sign of the Holy Divinity of Christ. These are all different views around the world. I consider polygamy extremely wrong. It is not possible that polygamy can be seen as tolerable regardless of whether or not a person has religious beliefs. It will always be wrong to be married to more than one person at the same time. Polygamy in my eyes degrades not only women, but the human race itself. It teaches us that one person is not good enough for the needs of the other.
