The Catholic Reformation, also known as the Counter-Reformation, all began after the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was led by Henry VIII. Henry VIII created the Reformation which converted the Catholic churches to Protestant, this allowed Henry to divorce and then remarry. For this reason most churches became Protestant. This, however, did not leave all Catholics happy. In response the Catholics decided to undergo some changes to create the Catholic Reformation. This would help prevent Catholics from abandoning the Catholic faith and becoming Protestants. The first step taken by Catholics towards reform was the Council of Trent. The Council of Trent was a meeting held in Trento by the Cardinals. Cardinals are the second highest power in the Catholic Church, the Pope is the highest. The objective of this meeting was to examine the criticisms made by Protestants and also to stop corruption within the Church.
