Topic > Rhetorical Analysis: Border War: Battle Over Illegality...

Illegal immigration has become a very pressing issue among people recently. Many people along the borders are greatly affected by the problem and think that immediate action needs to be taken to put an end to the problem. The documentary Border War: Battle Over Illegal Immigration takes a stand on the issue using many examples of pathos, ethics and logos to try to persuade people that illegal immigration is a very serious problem and that we need to stop it. This documentary follows the lives of people affected by illegal immigration and explains how they feel about the issue. Another way people can look at the problem of illegal immigration is through the eyes of immigrants and the reasons why they might try to immigrate to another country. The documentary Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary focuses on the issue from this point of view. This documentary uses pathos and logos to show the lives and difficulties of those who are trying to emigrate to a new country. Although Wetback used many examples of pathos and logos to show the struggles of migrants, Border War did a better job of showing pathos by following the lives of people affected by illegal immigrants and was also very persuasive with ethics by following believable people. They did a great job incorporating ethics into the Border War documentary, following the lives of people who are credible and whose point of view you can trust. The first boy the documentary followed was federal agent Jose Maheda. Jose worked on the US-Mexico border in Arizona. Just the fact that he is a federal agent gives him credibility, but another thing that helps his credibility is the fact that he was still respectful to the...... middle of paper ...... just their opinion about things and not give the other point of view. It would have been better if they had also provided the other side of the story and not just their point of view, because it makes you wonder how much you can trust it. Both of these documentaries did a good job of incorporating pathos into their stories, but the lack of ethics in Wetback caused it to lose credibility. The way Border War portrayed the lives of those people who were personally affected by illegal immigration, and the way the people who followed provided very credible resources added a lot to the documentary making it very persuasive.
