Documentary films have become very popular in recent years with the success of Michael Moore's films which fuel an interest in learning while having fun. Two directors benefited from this new interest in the non-fiction film movement, including directors Morgan Spurlock and Lee Fulkerson. Both filmmakers have made documentaries about healthy eating, or the lack thereof, in North America. Spurlock's film, Super Size Me, was about a healthy man who wanted to see what would happen to his body if he ate nothing but McDonald's products for an entire month. On the other hand, Forks Over Knives by Fulkerson is about a man trying to improve his health by consuming only a plant-based, food-based diet. Despite the differences in their respective journeys, Spurlock and Fulkerson's films both combine different modes of documentary filmmaking, including the use of narrative in an expository mode, the use of filmmakers' reflective mode on screen presence, and the participatory mode as both are on a personal level. , and therefore recognizable, search for knowledge.
