What is Doyle's message in Joyas Voladoras? Well, there could be many interpretations, but in particular I think he's trying to tell us about the heart. We talk about many different topics, such as hummingbirds and blue whales, but we always come back to ONE topic: that of the heart, the physical and the emotional. First it starts with the hummingbirds, perhaps just to get us interested. . It starts with how hummingbirds are discovered, but then, suddenly, it starts talking about "their hearts are pounding faster than we could hear clearly if we pressed our [enormous] ears to their [small] chests" ( line 12-14, page 29), and this shows that it always returns to the heart. But why does he do it? Maybe if we move forward we will see that he begins to talk about "torpor" and death due to the heart not being able to supply oxygen. He states that “Every creature on earth has approximately two billion heartbeats to spend in a lifetime. You can spend it slowly… and live to be two hundred years old, or you can spend it quickly… and live to be two years old” (line 55-60, page 31). Is he trying to tell us that we can choose how long we live? I mean, we usually spend our heartbeats moderately, but if we wanted, could we live for years? If you think literally, you will find that this is physically impossible, considering the conditions of old age. But we can live life to the fullest, that is, we can live life on the couch, where time passes, or we can live life with enthusiasm, like taking risks and conquering even the most difficult things. The next "piece" is about the blue whale. And of course you can deduce that it will talk about the heart of the blue whale (which is absolutely true). First it says how... middle of paper... liquid moving around us. But what is it? Obviously, the best description for this “liquid” is blood. But what is the “liquid” that bubbles inside unicellular bacteria? If you think about it carefully and try to imagine it, then you could invent some sort of “jelly” substance. But maybe that's wrong. If you start thinking metaphorically, you might discover something that maybe I can't even imagine. When I think like this, maybe it means that this “liquid” isn't even liquid. It's your feelings, the desire to go out, especially when you're sad or nervous. When I'm nervous, I feel a chill in my stomach and throat, and it makes me cry, that terrible feeling I just described. It's not liquid, it's bubbling feelings! Maybe if we look in the next section, perhaps we can find more clues about this “liquid” mystery. Works Cited Joyas Voladoras
