Topic > Facebook: A Necessary Evil - 1154

Technology has forever changed the way our society communicates, socializes, and interacts with each other. Some are convinced that there is nothing better on earth when the latest technology hits the shelves. Whether it's the new Ipad, Iphone or the big flat screen TV, there always seems to be a queue out the front door. Unfortunately there is a very evil and dark side that is finally getting the attention it deserves. One of the biggest contributors to the push of new social media is Facebook. This particular application has been used for serious electronic assaults and has become the gateway to the arsenal of school bullies. In 2008, I watched my neighbors' 14-year-old daughter go from being a sweet straight-A student to being an EMU, sexually promiscuous, and participating in drug-related activities. This occurred within a period of 9-12 months after receiving his Facebook account. Ironically, in 2008-2009 the School Crime Supplement (National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice Statistics) indicates that 6% of students in grades 6-12 experienced cyberbullying. Thanks to Facebook, our country has seen teenagers begin to measure their worth, their appearance, and feelings of low self-worth, leading to tragic suicides in the media. The media in our country has always been a huge driving force behind many societal beliefs. economic systems and social status. This can be especially true if you don't have the new iPhone or iPad, and if they don't have a phone at all it's even worse. The general population doesn't realize exactly how cruel and ruthless some of these children can be to each other. I personally experienced this face-to-face bullying when I was younger regarding economic inequality. First... middle of the paper... they are coming, but due to the current legal situation it is even more difficult to deal with them. The CDC and the Department of Health and Human Services say right now they help in the prevention of all these complex problems by increasing the connection between youth and parents, other adults, and teachers. They also suggest not allowing your child or teenager to use such applications without supervision and educating them about the severity of all the problems surrounding the World Wide Web. The increase in media becoming babysitters is one of the major factors contributing to this situation devastating. I know many children under 13 who have more than one Facebook. The question that arises in many minds is whether networking on Facebook is really a necessity. My suggestion: If you are a parent, the decision must be made if and when Facebook becomes an increasingly necessary evil for you.
