New drugs were being discovered, both for medicinal and recreational use. Insulin and penicillin, both life-saving drugs, increased human lifespan and made it more likely that people would worry less about their health. The 1920s are known for mobsters like Al Capone driving around in the new Model T, shooting Tommy guns, and robbing banks, but Ford's Model T car did more for America than you might imagine.
