The 1920s were a monumental time in American history. It represented the real leap from the ideology of the 18th and 19th centuries to the ideology of the 20th century. The entire sphere of American beliefs evolved into the mindset that many Americans still possess and laid the foundation for future ideological advances. Conservation and realistic achievements were essential in the 18th and 19th centuries. However, the new technological, social and economic achievements of the 1920s allowed the situation to change. In the 1920s the American Dream became less of a dream and more of a probability. The first aspect of the 1920s that was essential to the changing American atmosphere was the technological advances of the time. New drugs were being discovered, both for medicinal and recreational use. Insulin and penicillin, both life-saving drugs, increased human lifespan and made it more likely that people would worry less about their health. Speaking of health, another technological advancement of the 1920s was frozen foods and television. The combination was all the rage in the 1920s. While all of these advances are ingenious, the most essential and iconic technological advances were the Tommy gun and the car, particularly Ford's Model T car. The 1920s are known for mobsters like Al Capone driving around in the new Model T, shooting Tommy guns, and robbing banks, but Ford's Model T car did more for America than you might imagine. Because Ford designed an assembly line to produce automobiles with unskilled labor, its factory was able to produce vehicles at a high rate and at low cost. His cars became widely available to middle-class and even lower-class families and individuals. Ford's car represents freedom and progress and became the image of the new m...... middle of paper ...... who built his Standard Oil Company from nothing, like Andrew Carnegie with his Steel Company, and JP Morgan which was closely tied to Wall Street, embodied the American dream: the ability to come from nothing and become someone with everything you could ever hope to want. All these things, technological, social and economic phenomena, and many others shaped the 1920s and the centuries that followed. It was the beginning of modern life as we know it and the beginning of the end of all the traditional values of the world. Today, the 2020s may seem like nothing more than other countries today are going through their version of our 2020s and when they all do, the world will be forever new and changed. While America may not be the dominant power and stronghold of the world at that point, the American dream will perpetuate every corner of the world and shape its future..
