In “Slumdog Millionaire” the theme of being a loser is shown throughout the film. When Jamal first entered "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" he was made fun of by the audience and the host. They believe he is not intelligent due to his poor background, education and because he worked as a tea server in a telemarketing building. Jamal proved them all wrong by answering every question correctly based on events that happened in his life. Symbolism is also used throughout the film, such as when Jamal meets a blind girl begging; perhaps it has the lowest possible social status in India: it is a symbol of poverty. The binary opposite of money and wealth is also symbolically present in the film. In the film, Salim symbolizes law (religion without love) and Jamal represents love. These themes, symbols and motifs all connect to the binary opposites of "Claude Levi Strauss", showing how the conflict between these opposites can be used to create drama and impact in the film.
