Name-Habtamu FikruClass-ManagementDate-12/1/13Instructor-Conceptual Management Skills in the Movie “The Flaw” Management is the act or ability to control and make decisions about a company, department, or large organization. According to "The Exceptional Manager" by Kinicki Williams, a good example of someone with the star qualities of a manager includes conceptual skills. According to the same source, conceptual ability is the ability to visualize the organization as a whole and includes analytical, creative and initiative skills. It helps managers set goals for the entire organization and plan for every situation. This skill is mostly required by higher-level management because they spend more time planning and problem solving. According to Kinicki, the main goal of using conceptual tools is to improve the quality of decision-making or sense-making. As their environment becomes increasingly turbulent, managers will have to rely more and more on their own skills of interpretation, analysis and questioning rather than their prior knowledge and experience. The goal of the conceptual management tool is not to present a definitive road map to a predetermined solution. It simply offers a systematic framework for guidance and progress. It provides steps, structures and formats that synchronize actions and allow groups and individuals to proceed in a coordinated manner. The goal of conceptual management is to improve the quality of decision-making or problem-solving. This should be achieved by improving the communication and cognitive process. For this particular project I have selected a topic covered in one of the chapters of the book, "The Exceptional Manager" in chapter one and show how this topic is illustrated..... .middle of the document...Greenspan admitted in his testimony that, in light of a crisis he called "a once-in-a-century financial tsunami," he was wrong to think that financial markets could police themselves. He mistakenly expected that market discipline would prevent financial institutions from taking deadly risks. I think the film showed how Greenspan was wrong in his free-market belief in making bad decisions, particularly in his failure to rein in unsafe mortgage lending practices. This is a prime example of a lack of conceptual management skills causing harsh economic consequences for people and a country. Works Cited Kinicki, Angelo, and Brian K. Williams.
