Merna GuirguisWriting in a research February 19, 2014IntroductionThe effects of food supplementation together with diet and exercise on weight managementTo maintain a healthy lifestyle and fit, people seeking weight management need an active lifestyle, a healthy diet and nutritional supplements and multivitamins. Through a correct balance of the three parts, the desired objectives can be achieved and maintained. Physical fitness is defined as the ability to work competently and successfully, to enjoy relaxation, to feel well, to resist illness and to cope with crisis conditions (Oxford University, 2013). A healthy regimen is designed to improve and maintain the patient's health (Meriam-Webster, Incorporated, 2014). Dietary supplements, as defined by the Food and Drug Administration, are substances intended for consumption and contain dietary ingredients that provide a mechanism to further increase the nutritional value of the diet. They can be single or in any combination of ingredients such as extracts, vitamins, herbs, metabolites, minerals, etc. and are produced in many forms such as liquids, tablets, powders, capsules, etc. (US Food and Drug Administration, 2009 ). When diet, exercise and nutritional supplements are combined correctly, adequate weight control can be achieved. Weight management can consist of losing weight, gaining muscle mass, or maintaining a desired weight. There are several ways to track your weight. One method might be to simply weigh the patient. Another might be to calculate your body mass index, or BMI. BMI is defined as a measurement of the amount of fat in the body and is based on weight and height (Meriam Webster, Incorporated, 2014).
