Topic > Essay on Junk Food - 941

Junk food is a type of unhealthy meal and can adversely affect an individual's health if consumed in excess. It is usually prepared, cooked and served quickly. In the past, people ate healthy, home-cooked meals. However, changes have occurred nowadays. People, especially young adults, prefer to eat junk food which causes many harmful diseases. If the number of people eating fast food began to increase rapidly, it would lead to many serious disadvantages. This essay will mention the various causes and effects of excessive junk food consumption on our lives. First of all, our recent lifestyle is the main reason why people nowadays consume large amounts of junk food. In this generation, media and advertising, such as TV and radio commercials, are the main reasons for people to eat too much junk food, as the media hypnotizes and brainwashes people into buying what looks delicious and economical. According to a new report from the Yale Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity, in 2012, the junk food industry spent $4.6 billion solely on advertising to support young people's daily visits to fast food restaurants, focusing primarily on young children (Orciari, 2013). Since people are busy with their work and are always on the go, they have no time to cook and are forced to eat out. Therefore, they spend less quality time together as a family. According to a survey, on some days, 55% of employed UAE parents say they do not eat even one meal a day (Staff, 2014). Nowadays, almost all women work full-time jobs to earn an income; so they barely have time to cook for their families. If they had time, they would be too tired to cook a balanced meal at the end of… middle of paper… the landlord paying rent. According to Business Insider, nearly 1,000 restaurants opened in New York City last year. In the next 5 years, 800 of them will go out of business for many reasons, including poor service, horrible decor, and so on (LAYA, 2011). The owner will be forced to close the business due to the negative impact on profit. In conclusion, junk food is a very cheap, enjoyable and delicious type of meal. However, some causes of excessive junk food consumption are current lifestyle and extra spending, while some effects could be health diseases and financial influence. Cut down on fast food and start eating healthier foods like salad. If people eat fast food every day or continuously, this can lead to many serious inconveniences, including health problems. Therefore, people are advised to take care of their health and be careful about what they eat.
