Topic > Persuasive Essay on Gun Control - 2172

Gun control is a serious topic in the United States right now. A record number of Americans are purchasing firearms for both protection and recreational use. The increase in firearms across the country has led to a substantial increase in the number of homicides and public shootings. While the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution gives American citizens the right to bear arms, what better can the federal government and citizens do to protect themselves from gun violence? Currently, many states and cities have certain regulations regarding gun ownership; However, there has yet to be a federal position on how to control and curb gun violence. Additionally, there are numerous countries that have strict laws that restrict or limit access to guns. These countries typically tend to have lower rates of firearm-related injuries or crimes. Firearms are very common in American society. Sometimes, dichotomization is associated with firearms. For example, when white society dichotomizes African American males as delinquents or gang members, this negatively affects the African American male population. When a person is dichotomized, at some point they will end up falling into a certain category. If so, this could lead to more gun crimes, especially among African American males. Therefore, gun crimes may be associated with the dichotomization of certain groups. Additionally, gun-related deaths and suicides may stem from the LGBT community or even adolescents who often feel isolated due to dichotomization. Likewise, it is considered very patriotic for an American male to carry a gun. This is often shown in the media and television where it is shown that the male must carry a weapon with him for protection or hunting. Real men who don't carry a gun with... means of paper... and inform the public that there is often prejudice. Sponsors will pay the media and tell them what to report and broadcast. For example, NBC or CBS will air stories pushing for gun restrictions on their networks. On the other hand, Fox News will talk about the need to reduce gun restrictions. Fundamentally, network sponsors play a critical role in dividing public opinion as gun violence continues to claim innocent lives. Stricter gun laws are critical to curbing unnecessary gun violence. The United States could learn from Canada and the United Kingdom that imposing tougher restrictions at the federal level is critical to limiting gun violence. Overall, America loves its guns and doesn't like it when laws restricting guns are passed; however, the passage of laws in some states and other countries has significantly reduced firearm-related deaths.
