As her family is systematically murdered by the misfit and his gang, she begs for her life, Figueroa 4 showing little to no regard for the rest of the family as they were murdered. As the grandmother conversed with the geek and heard the gunshots killing the rest of her family, she exclaims to the geek, "I know you wouldn't shoot a woman!" (O'Connor 145). Once again, this statement reveals the grandmother's vanity. Relying on her vanity to save her life, Grandma reveals her true personality to the Misfit.
