Topic > Personal development as a critical professional

To what extent do you feel you have already begun to develop the approaches of a critical professional? Analyze and evaluate your progress using examples from your work to illustrate your points. Introduction For the purposes of this assignment I will consider how I have already begun to develop as a "critical professional". With this statement I would like to highlight how I have an "open mind", use a "reflective approach" that takes into account "different perspectives, experiences and hypotheses" (Glaister quoted in reader page 8). I will discuss how my practice has developed and been influenced by K315 course materials such as Barnett's three domains of critical practice, action, reflexivity and analysis (Barnett quoted in Glaister in the Reader p. 13) as key aspects of understanding of the complexities involved in critical practice. I will also discuss the importance of Glaister's three pillars of daily practice: “Building Relationships,” “Empowering Others,” and “Making a Difference.” (Glaister quoted in reader pp. 17-21). I will analyze and evaluate my progress using examples from my hands-on learning opportunity in a criminal justice context which will illustrate the ways in which I have begun to demonstrate the autonomy required of a skilled worker, "respecting others as equals and "open and not knowing approach" (Glaister quoted in reader pp 12-14) while working to SiSWE standards. I will conclude by demonstrating why, as a critical practitioner and reflective thinker, I have been able to make informed judgments that seek to empower the service user, enabling them to take their views into account whilst balancing the complexity of professional power issues I will start by discussing 'J'…… middle of the paper…… practice in social work interviews – keeping the child in mind.” Milton Keynes.
