A man carrying two revolvers and two 9mm semi-automatic pistols calmly walked into Dunblane Primary School. Two people immediately spotted the firearms and tried to confront the man; he shot them and left them injured as he continued his journey down the school hallway. Eventually, the man arrived at his destination: the gym, where a class of kindergarten children were doing physical education. In the gymnasium, he pulled out guns and began shooting down five-year-olds one by one. The room was splattered with blood as small children broke like porcelain dolls under the force of the gun. The blood continued to flow, but the intruder did not stop; he took careful aim to make sure he didn't miss. The final insult came when he shot the teacher who was protecting the children with his body. Once he killed her, he also killed the children she was protecting. When he finished in the gym, he turned and walked out, shot a class as he walked down the hallway and went out into the courtyard. In the courtyard, the killer ended the ordeal by taking his own life (Pederson). In the final count, sixteen children lay dead along with their teacher, twelve more children were injured plus the two adults who had met the killer at the door. Only one boy in the gym escaped physically unharmed, his name was Robbie Hurst, and he survived by hiding under the corpses of his best friend and another classmate (Pederson). Gun control is a very sensitive issue with many different sides and points of view. . On one side there are those who believe that gun control is a necessary element of security. Others believe it is unfair to take away a person's right to own firearms. These people also think that gun control won't even help stop crime. However you look at it, firearms have become a leading cause of death in the United States. Guns are tops among young black men. This makes gun control an issue that needs to be addressed. Gun control won't help, because it's the people who should be punished, not everyone else. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution states that "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
