Turkish is one of the youngest and most rapidly developing languages; Furthermore, around 80 million people around the world speak Turkish as their native language. 1928 was a crucial year for the development of the modern Turkish language because the Latin alphabet was adopted instead of the Arabic script and after this transition numerous events sequentially shaped the Turkish language. On the other hand, the contemporary use of the Turkish language raises some concerns. Although the Turkish language has been seeking solutions to sophisticated dilemmas since the 1920s, it faces historical, political, cultural issues and the risk of loss of originality, degeneration of quality and misuse in the media; as a result of this process the Turkish language goes in the wrong direction. A 2006 study by Meltem Ahıska and Zafer Yenal analyzed the deformation of Turkish in “Where is the Turkish language headed?”, one of the articles from the book The Person The message you called cannot be reached at the moment: representations of styles of life in Türkiye 1980-2005. They focus on the process of evolution of the Turkish language with multiple perspectives. Initially they discuss the historical and political process of the Turkish language, then they focus on the spoken language and slang, finally they criticize the way the media uses the language and make some predictions about the future of the Turkish language. Debates about the Turkish language are not a topic current. The Westernization of the language was only one part of the modernization movement of the Turkish Republic. Men of letters, scholars and state governors worked on this theme. The Turkish Language Association (Türk Dil Kurumu) was founded on the directive of Atatürk in 1932. The Turkish Language Association...... center of the paper ......er to politicians, adopted a style of speech strongly colored with slang" (55). This quote represents the dangerous position in which the Turkish language finds itself. Ultimately, the originality of the Turkish language is fading away day by day. The Turkish language has tried to build so original, but challenges various political, historical and cultural problems. For these reasons, the Turkish language struggles to find the right direction. If the Turkish people and authorities understood the meaning of the native language, they could overcome this problem.
