For me society is moving into its infant stage starting to understand that everything will not stay the same and this has had a huge impact on the gay and lesbian communities. The struggle that those before me had to endure to make the world more accepting of marriage equality left me with the feeling that I needed to hurry up and take advantage of their struggle. While those have fought hard, there are others who are fighting fiercely to undo all that has been achieved. Society doesn't have many married gay couples for the younger generation to look up to, this leads to wrong impressions being formed. After reading everything that the couples involved in the Obergefell v. Hodges, it made me want to honor their sacrifice and what better way to honor them than by doing what they fought so hard for me to get married to. Reading the details of the case made me feel a certain connection and empathy for each of the people involved, but when I took the time to actually analyze their situations and my understanding of the situation came, they put up with it all so that when I was really ready as if they had been I wouldn't have had the same difficulties.
